Michael,
As you know, I am member of Phi Mu. Our philanthropy is the Children’s Miracle Network. I, like yourself, enjoy giving back through my sorority. It is fun to give back when you are with some of your best friends. I like how most people involved with Greek Life participate in philanthropic events other than ones that pertain to their organization. You can’t expect people to participate in yours unless you give back to theirs too. It is like one big circle of giving back. It is good to know that guys can enjoy giving back and helping others too. Good luck to Sigma Nu and its philanthropy!

Title:  The “Real World” of PR
April 27, 2010

hkbarnes – April 28, 2010

I can totally see how you wouldn’t like Kell on Earth. Even though it is show about a PR company, I think the target audience is females. I found it very interesting and have grown to love it. I am a fan of pretty much everything on the Bravo channel though.
I agree with you that Kelly preaches a lot about how the job is very high-stressed. If someone is really that stressed all the time you would think they wouldn’t keep pointing out the obvious. At least in my life I don’t like to talk about how stressed I am because it only makes it worse.
The show can only be so different from other reality tv shows because they are all based on “reality” or some version of it.

Title: Responding to negative news on the internet

I thought this post was really interesting. I like your whole blog actually. I think the whole PR News Channel on Youtube is very helpful to students. I even bookmarked it so I can access it easily. Negative news is something everyone in public relations will encounter at some point in their career. I am going to write some of these important points down and put them away for safe keeping until the day I have to handle bad news. This scenario is a very likely encounter one day, so thanks for picking this one to discuss. I only wish the video had a little more pizazz to it.

Title: Tim McGraw Coming to Georgia Southern University
April 27, 2010

I was also very excited when I found out Tim Mcgraw was coming to Georgia Southern. I had heard rumors in the fall that it was probably going to be a big country act. I love country music so this was very exciting for me. I was sad to hear the his opening act, Lady Antebellum, would not be doing to the show with him. This discouraged me a little from going and when I heard about the prices I decided not to go. His tour is stopping in Atlanta the weekend after school is done so I am seeing him then instead.
Enjoy the concert! I’m sure he is going to put on a fantastic show!

Title: Lindsay Lohan Trouble
April 27, 2010
http://ale604.wordpress.com/2010/04/27/lindsay-lohan-trouble/

I was a huge Lindsay Lohan fan when I was little. I loved her version of the Parent Trap. Ever since the movie Mean Girls I feel like she has gone down hill. When is the last time she was in a movie anyways. I heard news earlier this week that she was dropped from her latest role because they didn’t think she was bankable enough.
Also, haven’t her and her father been bashing one another via Twitter? I think that is a good example of social media being used for the wrong reasons. Whatever her issues are I hope she can sort them out before it’s too late and i think her dad needs to stop discussing it with the media and try and handle it privately.

Title: The Importance of Social Networking Sites
April 27, 2010
http://annalg.wordpress.com/2010/02/27/the-importance-of-social-networking-sites/

I loved this post. I thought it was so interesting, especially the article on the military. Usually when you think about the military you think of them doing there own thing and not conforming to the things going on in society. I do think it is very smart move for them to get involved with social media. I for one, can’t imagine my life without social media being a part of it. I love facebook and skype. They help me keep in contact with friends easily. I love how I can see my friends and family even if I am far away. It makes me miss them a little less.

I totally agree with you. It was past Kate’s time to leave Dancing with the Stars. I would rather see celebrities on there who can actually dance or a least do more than walk around the dance floor.

I know I’m not a mother or in her position, but I don’t know if I could leave my kids for lengthy period of time like she does.

I realize that she can’t support her eight children by going back to work as a nurse, but can’t she find something to do that’s out of the public eye. She can’t keep complaining about the media hounding her if she keeps putting herself out there.

I love baseball too. Especially the Braves. The good thing about baseball season is there is a game on everyday. I am very impressed that you actually watch it every day. I am from the Atlanta area so I grew up going to lots of Braves games and it’s weird being at school down here and not able to to just go whenever I want. In a recent issue of Sports Illustrated, I think the one covering the Masters, they had a great article about Jason Heyward. if you haven’t read it yet I would highly recommend it! I love having John Smoltz as a commentator this year too. He was such an amazing player and all round good guy so I’m glad he is back to share his immense baseball/pitching knowledge with all of us.

Next possible princess?

The saying goes “no news is good news.”  I sure hope this is case concerning the possible next royal engagement.  Although neither party has adddressed the media on the issue, I’m sure if the two were to get engaged then they will handle it th best way possible.  Do royals even know how to do do bad PR?  Certainly not with a royal engagement.

I was so excited when my copy came in the mail 🙂

Their wedding will be fabulous

Lauren,
I have seen commercials for this over the past few weeks and your post was very informative. I agree with you. This was a great PR move for KFC. I rarely eat KFC, but since they are supporting such a great cause I have been considering get some friends together and going to one. I love that you mentioned the Silver Anvil Award because in my Intro to PR class we had to do projects on companies that had been nominated or had won this award. I think KFC would be a great recipient of this award as well.
