Lauren,
I am a huge tennis fan like you and I was shocked when I watched Serena’s actions live during the match last fall. I understand that she is competitive and was stressed about her mediocre performance that even, but you just can’t say that to someone. I applaud the WTA for fining her and luckily even with this mistake she will still have plenty of fans and people who go to tournaments to watch her play. I know she apologized later for her actions, but the damage was already done. I highly doubt that line judge will even participate in a match with her ever again. I certainly wouldn’t want to. Great blog topic!

Lauren,
I am so glad you blogged about this because I thought it was a great PR move from Sandra. Although, I wonder if she wasn’t nominated for the Oscar if she would have gone to get the Razzie. It’s easy to go and do something like when you still have confidence in your acting ability with a Oscar Nomination (and eventual win) to back you up. Either way, the woman’s got some serious gumption because I don’t know if I would have been brave enough to do that and THEN pass out copies of the movie that won her award. She handled her critics in a humorous and classy way. Good for her!!

Oh my goodness! I read this book over Spring Break and balled my eyes out the last 150 pages. However, I was hesitant to go see the movie because no the books are always better than the movies. I saw the movie Dear John earlier this semester and was thoroughly disappointed. That book is one of my favorites and I felt the movie didn’t do it justice.
When I did see The Last Song, I cried for the whole latter half. I thought it was fantastic!!! You are right, Liam is beautiful to look at, especially for 1 hour and 45 minutes. 🙂
We have to watch it together again when it comes out on DVD.

Title: Phoneathon is back in action

Yay!! I love the Phoneathon! I had so much fun doing it last year and was so excited when I learned we would be doing it again this year. Make the first call is very nerve wracking. You are calling these people you don’t even know and praying they don’t hang up on you, talk about going out on a limb. One of the ladies there told me this was a greet thing to put on a resume. I had never thought about it before, but she is right. It gives you good practice with business-related phone calls and getting used to rejection. The ladies who are in charge of the phoneathon have great energy that is infectious. Even if you are there for four hours, you still leave loving Phi Mu and feeling good about all the money raised.
Too bad this was our last year hosting it:(

Title: Yikes!!! (and likes) of the Oscars
April 27, 2010

hkbarnes  // April 27, 2010 at 11:27 pm

Lindsay,
I loved your post about the Oscars too! I usually always watch the red carpets beforehand, but this year I missed it and had to go look at pictures online instead and then the day after I watched Fashion Police on E!
I agree with Jessica’s comment on Mariah. It was very “hoochie”. But, let’s be honest, does she ever dress conservatively?
I loved Sarah Jessica Parker’s dress too. She is always fashion forward and this award so was no different. I thought her hair was a huge miss though. I do think it should have been done in an updo, but her’s was too big for my taste.
I am so glad you included Mariska in your post. I love her on SVU and was so happy to see her at the Oscars.

HAHA!! I love the title of the post! I too hated Vienna during The Bachelor. I still think Jake was an idiot for choosing her and not precious, Tinley. Stupid boy! Ali and Tinley were my favorites from the beginning. I was bummed when Ali decided to leave the show. I heard she works for Facebook. Hopefully, her boss gave her ample time off now that she is the Bachelorette. Although, I am excited to watch her find the man of her dreams, I wonder if ABC will ever use an original bachelor or bachelorette again because it seems like there has not been one in a long time. I am positive Ali can find someone way better than Jake.

Title: think before you tweet

I love this show! Kelly scares me to death and I would probably cry on a daily basis if I worked for her, but she is an amazing business woman and a strong force in the world of fashion pr so kudos to her. I think the girl who tweeted was an idiot. Who on earth would tweet about something like that and not expect to get caught? She probably didn’t even want to work for People’s Revolution and just wanted to try and get on TV. Good for Stephanie for calling the girl out on her stupidity and the girl should definitely “think before she tweets” next time. Besides, no one wants to know the every detail of your life via Twitter anyways.

Title: Happy Birthday Youtube

hkbarnes  // April 28, 2010 at 12:34 am

I remember when Youtube was first started back when I was in high school. I was hesitant to use it at first because for some reason I was afraid I was going to get caught and then fined. I compared it to LimeWire or Napster and thought watching the videos was a kind of pyroting.
Today I use Youtube on a daily basis. Whether it be listening a new song I heard somewhere or watching funny videos people upload, Youtube brightens up my days.
Most bloggers post their videos from there as well. All the videos I have posted came from Youtube. I don’t know what we would do without it. It has become such an intricate part of the web; I think internet usage would decrease if Youtube was taken away.

Title: How to study for final exams

Your tips were very helpful. Before coming to college, finals week scared me to death. Over the past three years, the most important thing I have learned is to prepare ahead of time. Plan out ahead of time how you are going to study, like you said. Prior to doing it I thought it was a dumb idea, but now I do it every semester.

If the final is cumulative, don’t wait until the night before to beginning studying and think you are going to great. It’s usually too much information for our brain to take in.

Also, I don’t like finals in the afternoons. I like to get up, take my test and be done. Sitting around and waiting or trying to do some last minute studying just makes me stress out.

Eating a good breakfast is also huge. There is nothing worse than sitting down to take a final and your stomach start growling. It is going to be a long test . . .
